A resume and a Curriculum Vitae
I guess only a few people know exactly what is the difference between a
resume and a curriculum vitae (CV). I found a brief introduction of CV and
resume in our graduate student handbook by accident. I'd like to share the
information with you.
What is the difference between a resume and a curriculum vitae? A resume is
a short document that summarizes qualifications, including education,
experience, skills and other items related to a job search. A CV is a
special type of resume traditionally used for positions in academia,
research, or grants. Like the resume, the CV summarizes education,
accomplishments, and professional expertise. Specifically, a CV should
highlight teaching experience, research work, publications, service or
committee work, and professional presentations.
While it is recommended that the resume be limited to one or two pages, the
CV does not have a page limitation. Example list of potential CV section
headings: Teaching experience, Teaching philoshophy, course Highlight,
Dissertation Abstract, Research Experience, Presentations, Acadimic Awards,
etc.
It recommends that if the position is located within the higher education
industry or is research-based, submit a CV.
